You want to eat plenty of foods that are full of proteins. Drink a lot of water and also 2% low-fat milk.
As far as exercise, you don't have to get crazy with it. Moderate exercise is all we are talking about here. If you will go on walks or walk on a tread mill three times a week for twenty to forty minutes is all that you need. If you have access to a swimming pool, swimming is a low impact exercise. If you have a bicycle or stationary bike, that's another way for low impact exercises. When possible use stairs instead of elevators. The cool thing about exercising is that once you get use to it, it makes you feel more energetic. Then it is a good chance that you will also add other exercise routines to your exercise program. Drinking a lot of water will help the weight loss procedure tremendously.

Another goal I had was in July-August. I had an event in mid-August where I was going to be meeting a mentor of mine, Dr. Jack Barnathan, and I wanted to be sure I was in tip-top shape, so I called it Meet Dr. Jack, or MDJ for short. When there was a chance of me slipping during that time, I always had MDJ in the back of my mind. It kept me going when I wanted ice cream or when I didn't want to workout. MDJ. It kept me motivated. Name your goal and use that name. Look at it every day so you know what your goal is and you do what is necessary to make it.
